Dec 21, 1988 - Feb 19, 1989
Berlin, GDR

The exhibition was one of the largest exhibitions of contemporary African art in the former GDR. It was co-organized by the Zimbabwean Ministry of Culture, in collaboration with the National Gallery and the Zentrum für Kunstausstellungen of the Ministry of Culture of the former GDR for a tour of eight communist states in Europe.

The Minister of Culture of the former GDR, Hans-Joachim Hoffmann, took the opportunity at the opening of the exhibition to express his satisfaction with the organisation of the exhibition in his country and emphasised the rapid emancipation of Zimbabwe, which at the time had not yet been independent for ten years and was already in a position to take responsibility for the development of its culture and to engage in struggles against apartheid.
