Jun 8, 1950 - Oct 15, 1950
Venice, Italy

The Yugoslav presentation at the 25th Venice Biennale from June to October 1950 was the first Yugoslav post-war participation at the Biennale. The Yugoslav pavilion’s commissioner was the distinguished Croatian writer Petar Šegedin. The country’s participation was crucial for Yugoslavia’s transition from socialist realist art towards a more open and more modern, non-dogmatic approach, a trend that would continue in the following years. Šegedin had an important role in this development, delivering apavilion designed to satisfy both the Yugoslav government and the art community.
